Europe 1 has obtained the results of the latest Arcep survey on 4G coverage in France. Average throughput has risen sharply in one year, a sign that deployment is progressing.

EXCLUSIVE

You galley daily to use your phone on the train or in the subway? You can not read a video when you are a passenger of a car? Europe 1 unveils exclusive this morning the quality of mobile service measured in the field. The telecoms regulatory authority, Arcep, led this giant test. A million and a half measurements were made everywhere in France, on the main roads and highways, the TGV, Intercités, TER, Transilien and even metro lines.

On average, it is at Orange that it is better to be when you take the train or the road. Nearly 9 times out of 10, you can load a web page in less than ten seconds on your phone. This may seem a bit slow, but other operators are doing less well. Bouygues Telecom is on the second step of the podium, followed by SFR, while Free is last. To present the results of this survey in detail, we have created two maps of the mobile coverage: on the train lines ( to view the map on a large scale, click here ) and on the main roads ( to consult the map at large scale, click here ).

Put pressure on the operators

You can have fun watching close to any corner of France. For example, in Brittany, we see that SFR covers the N165 badly between Nantes and Brest. Beside that, if you go between Périgueux and Brive, Orange is not always at the top on the A89 motorway. Take the test, also on subway lines, regional trains and main lines. It can be very useful if you hesitate to change operator.

EXCLUSIVE - Paris: 4G in the subway, it's always complicated

This is also the purpose of these measures, put pressure on operators to improve their coverage of France. And it seems to work rather well. The average speed, that is the speed of the Internet on the phone, has increased by 50% in one year, according to these measures (45 Mbit / s against 30 Mbit / s in 2018, this amounts to downloading an album of music in two minutes versus three minutes a year ago). The flow has even doubled in rural areas (28 Mbit / s against 14 in 2018).
