LONDON (Reuters) - Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has tasted the bitter loss of the European Super Cup for the third time in his career after failing to win it twice with Chelsea and his coach after his team lost to Liverpool on penalties.

The "curse" of the European super loss began with Lampard in two previous two-player appearances, the first defeat at Atletico Madrid 1-4 in 2012, and the second on penalties against Bayern Munich in 2013.

The former international midfielder expressed optimism and learned the positive lessons despite losing 5-4 on penalties, after the end of the original and extra time 2-2 draw in the confrontation hosted by the "Vodafone Arena" in Istanbul, the stronghold of Besiktas.

Lampard admitted that Liverpool had two more days to prepare for the European encounter was an important factor in the direction of the game in his direction, referring to Chelsea's opening game in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday, two days after Liverpool's game against Norwich City.

"To get two more days of rest at this point in the season, obviously it affects your preparations and that is positive for them," said Chelsea's top scorer.

"But I think it will happen a lot. I don't want to show like I'm complaining. I'm happy with our performance. We didn't lose the game because of that but it was a bit disappointing."
