The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá, guarantees aid to nearly 1.5 million self-employed workers, who represent half of those who exist in Spain, but not the rest, because he believes that for now they are not so affected by the crisis.

"We are going to protect 50% of the self-employed and we are doing it from the first day," he affirmed this Wednesday in the Congress of Deputies, stressing that it is necessary for the State to concentrate benefits "on those affected the most." "Do we have to open bar for all sectors as the crisis affects them as it affects them?" Escrivá asked rhetorically before the deputies. And they answered no, because "the citizens would not understand it." According to his diagnosis on the effects of the coronavirus crisis: "Many self-employed are affected, others less, others almost nothing and some, few, have even improved their income."

Escrivá stressed that "the bulk of the job loss has been in the general system and has fallen, specifically, on workers with temporary contracts. On the contrary, the self-employed system has had a more positive behavior, with a loss of 56,000 affiliated since March 12. " According to their data, "while the general regime registers a 6% drop, that of the self-employed does not reach 2%".

However, the Minister of Inclusion assures that this Friday there will be 800,000 self-employed workers who will receive "a minimum economic benefit of 950 euros per month" between relief in the Social Security quota and a new extraordinary benefit. It is granted to those who have been forced to cease activity by the decree of the State of alarm or have registered a drop in turnover of 75% of their business.

"The benefit is being granted to almost all the people who have requested it, with an acceptance of 97% of the requests," says the minister. He recalled that giving aid to 50% of the self-employed is a percentage "much higher than that of other groups".

During his appearance in Parliament, the minister crushed the image of the president of the Association of Autonomous Workers and vice president of CEOE, Lorenzo Amor. He did not expressly allude to him, but clearly. He accused him of distributing "false information" and said he had "a complete dossier" of him on what he made available to the deputies. "A certain association of self-employed people has been misinforming (...) You cannot play with this"

For his part, Lorenzo Amor reaffirmed last night that the Government "has abandoned the self-employed" and stresses that there has been no tax exemption in these months of crisis and they have begun to make concessions for tax deferrals "on the last day to file taxes domiciled and having already filed taxes many self-employed.
