Delta Air Lines is committed to the planet. The American airline, leader of the air transport industry, announced this Friday in a press release its ambition to reach carbon neutrality by 2030, reports Engadget relayed by the Journal du Geek .
Carbon neutrality means that a company emits as many greenhouse gases into the atmosphere as it helps to remove them. To achieve this goal, Delta Air Lines will invest $ 1 billion in ecological solutions.

The American company intends in particular to reduce the dose of fuel it uses, by reducing its planes and by reworking its flight routes to limit their duration. But the company has no intention of doing without kerosene, even if this fuel generates 39.4 million tonnes of CO2 per year and represents 98% of its total carbon footprint.
"We will continue to use kerosene for as long as possible," said CEO Ed Bastian. "We will invest in fuel impact reduction technologies but I see no possible future where we would completely remove fossil energy from our energy footprint. "
The majority of efforts will therefore be put into compensating for this pollution with green solutions. Delta Air Lines intends to invest in "reforestation, the preservation of marshes and meadows and the capture of CO2 in the soil and in the ocean," the press release said. The air transport industry accounts for 2% of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, recalls the Journal du Geek .
