Robert Conrad, the American actor known for his role in the television series "The Mysteries of the West" and "The Burned Heads", died at the age of 84, reported the American press Saturday.

"He has lived a wonderfully long life and while his family is saddened by his passing, he will forever live in their hearts," said Jeff Ballard, family spokesperson for Conrad.

After working as a milkman and then singing in a night club, his career took off in 1959 when he joined the television show "Hawaiian Eye" after moving to Los Angeles, argues the magazine.

Between 1965 and 1969, he played the role of American Secret Service agent James T. West in the now famous series "The Mysteries of the West".

This series served as the basis for "Wild Wild West" (1999), one of the most expensive films ever made, in which Will Smith plays the role of James T. West.

Robert Conrad also made himself famous in 1976 with the series "The Burnt Heads" in which he played the major "pappy" Boyington, at the head of a squadron of badass and rebellious American pilots during the war with Japan.

He made his last film appearance in 2002.

"In showbiz there are three cycles," Conrad told the People magazine in an interview in 1998. "They don't know you, after they love you and after you've been there so long that they hate. Now I start all over again. "

Conrad was the father of eight children and the grandfather of 18 grandchildren, according to the magazine.
