Christian Bale demands a lot from his body for his roles. "He shouts out loud, you'll die soon if you keep this up," said the 45-year-old at the presentation of the political satire "Vice" at the Berlinale.

The Oscar winner played with a wink on the transformation into the former US Vice President Dick Cheney, which represents the Briton in the film. For the role Bale took several kilos - and now from again.

In the role he had sometimes felt like a bulldozer, "like an unstoppable force of nature." Bale described Cheney, who was vice president under former US President George W. Bush, as a "man of infinite contradictions." However, with the current US President, Donald Trump, you could not compare him, there are clear differences between the two. Cheney had always known that true power was to be found behind the scenes and in silence.

"Vice" nominated at the Oscars in eight categories

Bale's new film "Vice" celebrates Germany premiere in the evening and has already brought him a Golden Globe. The film is nominated in eight categories at the Oscars, which will be presented in Los Angeles on February 24th.

When addressed, he kept his head down: "It's a nice feeling." He is very thankful. The current film price season is, in Bale's words, a "festival of film" - and he added, "I'm so proud of this film."
