- There are many thoughts and feelings that start at school. It is a pressure to perform, and to look good and have a happy life to show in social media, says Emmeli Eriksson, coordinator at Tjejjouren in Karlstad.

This year, they are making a special effort to support young girls now that schools are starting up.

Throughout the week, volunteers are on site to chat with young girls about everything that can be tough.

- We do the chat to support and pepper the girls, and above all to listen to them. They should be able to tell what they want without anyone judging them, says Emmeli Eriksson.

Performance anxiety

The chat is open during the whole school week. And according to Emmeli Eriksson, it is a lot that is tough for young girls today.

- There are a number of different things, like performance anxiety over grades, anxiety over everything that has to do with the body, and so social media that play a big role in how you should look and be, and how your life should look like . So I think girls are not doing so well in Värmland today, ”she says.

For the rest of the year, the Girljour has its support chat running two nights a week. The school start tax this year is the first of its kind.

- We think that it can help a lot just because those who hear can be completely anonymous in the chat. They do not see us and we do not see them and this can be a first step to help.
