On January 22 this year, the Argentine striker overthrew Emiliano Sala's plan, while on his way to Cardiff. Sala was on his way to Wales to complete the transfer to Cardiff from Nantes. After two days, the police closed the search for the plane, which was only found on February 3. A few days later, it was confirmed that the attacker's body was found in the wreck.

After the death, Cardiff ended up in Nantes arguing over the purchase price for the Argentine. Nantes demanded that the Welsh club pay around SEK 180 million in three installments, something Cardiff opposed.

The French club took the matter to FIFA, which now announces that Cardiff has to pay six million euros, around SEK 60 million in a first installment.
