01 July 2019At least 16 people were killed by the explosion of a car bomb in Kabul placed outside the Ministry of Defense, according to sources from the Afghan Ministry of the Interior quoted by al Jazeera. 105 people were injured, including 26 children and 5 women, according to the local Ministry of Health.

After the bomb went off, armed men broke into a building where clashes with Afghan forces occurred, Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi added.

"There was a big explosion, then a series of smaller explosions. At the Emergency Surgical Center for war victims we received 45 patients, 22 admitted for surgical treatment while 23 were treated as outpatients. Two of them, unfortunately, are dead ... one of them was a child. Among the patients received today there are 17 minors, and there are still patients on the way, "says Marco Puntin, coordinator of Emergency.

According to the latest Unama report, the UN assistance mission in Afghanistan, in the first three months of 2019, the war in Afghanistan has caused 1,773 civilian casualties, of which 582 children.
