Morocco coached by Frenchman Hervé Renard, 2004 finalist and quarter-finalist of the last edition, was eliminated Friday in the 8th finals of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), ousted on penalties (1-1 , 4 tab to 1) by Benin, reduced to ten.

Beninois opened the scoring by Moïse Adilehou (53), then the Moroccans equalized by Youssef En-Nesyri (75). Hakim Ziyech missed a penalty in injury time. At the end of the extra time, Benin came out victorious on penalties (4-1). Beninese are playing in the quarter-finals for the first time in their history, having still not won a match (four draws).
