A new attack took place in Burkina Faso, last weekend, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, in the north of the country. At least sixteen people were killed.

The attack took place in Pobé-Mengao, in the Soum province, in northern Burkina Faso. It is a rural municipality, located 25 km from Djibo, the capital of the province. The violence took place on the night of Saturday to Sunday and was attributed to terrorist armed groups by a security source.

Many armed men have arrived in the area, residents have been kidnapped and shops looted, according to testimonies collected by Agence France-Presse.

600 dead, victims of terrorism

The next day, Sunday, gunmen reportedly returned to the scene and reportedly fired shots in the air. Then, in the evening, reinforcements arrived in Pobé-Mengao, to secure the premises. Patrols have also been put in place.

These new acts of violence provoked displacements of population towards Djibo. Since the beginning of 2015, the terrorist attacks in Burkina Faso have left more than 600 dead and 500,000 internally displaced.

On the very day of this attack in the Soum, on Saturday, thousands of people mobilized in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, to express their support for the security forces engaged in the fight against terrorism.
