Although Algerian football coach Jamal Belmadi voted for Egyptian star Mohamed Salah during the FIFA World Player of the Year award, he announced the right of the Greens, crowned African Nations Cup winner Riad Mehrez, to win the African Footballer of the Year award.

Speaking at a news conference ahead of the friendly against the DRC on Thursday, Belmadi said his vote for Salah was the right one and he was convinced.

Belmadi said that it is the award for the best African player of the different, where he wishes to win the title, after his successful leadership of Algeria to win the African title, as well as his brilliance with his team Manchester City in the Premier League.

Salah finished fourth in the World Player of the Year award and is the number one candidate to be crowned African Footballer of the Year after winning the title in the last two years.Mahrez won the African title once in 2016, when he led Leicester City to the Premier League title.
