Former England star David Beckham is seeking a historic deal by persuading Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona and lead his new American team.

Spanish radio Catalonia revealed that Beckham was in touch with Messi to join Inter Miami, who will play in the MLS in March next year, for a huge salary.

Beckham is seeking to take advantage of a clause in Messi's contract with Barcelona that allows him to leave for free, as he seeks to draw the world attention to his new under-developed team by having Messi as captain on the pitch.

The radio said that the advisers of the Argentine striker made huge miraculous demands until Beckham completely closed the deal.

The 32-year-old has scored 603 goals for Barcelona since he first wore the shirt in 2004 and has won the Golden Ball five times.
