Sami Boukhelifa, an RFI journalist, was honored on Saturday (October 12th) with the Bayeux Award for War Correspondents in the radio category for one of his reports in Baghouz, Syria.

In March 2019, Sami Boukhelifa was RFI's special envoy to Syria. The Kurdish forces backed by the international coalition were then fighting their last battle against ISIS.

The jihadists were entrenched in a makeshift camp in the village of Baghouz, in the east of the country. Bombed by the bombings, hundreds of them went every day, with women and children.

Sami Boukhelifa was then able to enter the village, a few days before the fall of the last collapse of the "caliphate" self-proclaimed.
