Several people died this Sunday when a plane from the Transpacific regional airline that had just taken off from the airport of the Colombian city of Popayán (southwest) had fallen on some homes.
Civil Aeronautics detailed in a statement that the accident occurred minutes after the aircraft, a twin-engine Piper PA-31-350, took off from the Guillermo León Valencia airport in Popayán, the departmental capital of Cauca.
According to local media, at least six people died in the incident, which left the plane completely destroyed, but so far no authority has confirmed the dead.
"Civil Aviation Search and Rescue personnel and the relevant authorities move to the site to verify the status of the occupants," said the Aerocivil.
The device, with capacity for seven passengers, covered the route between Popayán and the coastal town of López de Micay, also in Cauca.
The entity added that so far the causes of the accident are unknown, so accident investigation workers are in the area to "clarify the possible causes of the incident."
For its part, the Municipality of Popayán reported on its Twitter account that the Risk Management Office deals with the accident of the aircraft, which fell on the Junín neighborhood , located near the airport runway.
"The incident is addressed together with Aeronautical Firefighters, Hospital Network and Popayán Firefighters," he added.
