The first time Sargon Gauro fled the war in Syria and came to Södertälje was in 2013. And this year he began to hope that the multi-year war would soon be over. Last spring he started accepting both wedding and party gigs in the country.

- I have long known that I want to go there not only to perform but to spread hope and joy to all Assyrians / Syrians in the area. To look, here is a party and it will be good soon, he says, and says that he has since returned several times - last week.

But that's when the nightmare struck, the day after Turkey launched its offensive, Sargon Gauro would take the flight home from Qamishli - but it was canceled.

Worried family were waiting in Södertälje

At home in Södertälje, the troubled family waited, and an upcoming wedding party. Sargon says that he had to consider calling a substitute who could appear in his place if he did not show up. But he didn't. After hours of uncertainty, he managed to fly to Beirut and later to Sweden.

In the clip above, Sargon Gauro talks about the dramatic hours.
