“We discovered an unusual mysterious burial. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that the grave is not laid out of plates, as is often found, but is carved in a single piece of stone. This is a real small stone sarcophagus, which is unusual for such an early time, ”Alexander Butyagin, head of the State Hermitage Museum’s Mirmek expedition, told RIA Novosti.

According to him, inside archaeologists did not find anything, while the stone slab that blocked the grave remained undisturbed.

“Perhaps the ashes of the deceased after cremation were poured here or an empty burial was made in memory of a man who died in a foreign land,” Butyagin said.

Earlier, archaeologists discovered catacombs in Crimea that date from the end of III - the beginning of II millennium BC.
