A ruling that seems to have affected all the main operators in the United States has caused a large number of people to receive text messages that had been sent on Valentine's Day and dates close to this celebration. According to The Verge, the ruling affected both Android and iPhone users, especially those who service T-Mobile or Sprint , although there are also mentions to AT&T, Verizon, local operators (even some Canadian) and even Google Voice

The culprit seems to be a system that all these companies use for messaging. Specifically, from Sprint they pointed out to The Verge that mass shipping seemed to have occurred due to a maintenance update . At the moment it is not known why the messages were not sent at the time or why it happened on a date as marked as Valentine's Day.

In social networks like Twitter it is easy to find the complaints of several people who, without knowing it, communicated with their ex-partners with a romantic SMS sent at dawn . A possible explanation gathered by Wired would be that the operators were performing maintenance or stress tests of the systems and for this they used old messages that should never have reached the users. However, instead of sending them to test devices, they were mistakenly sent to real numbers.

This explanation would also fit with the fact of having chosen precisely a date like Valentine's Day, since it is assumed that it will be a representative day in which all kinds of content are generated. Having a large volume of activity, it could also have been chosen because it was a day in which many failures occurred.
