The G7 promised Monday, during the summit in Biarritz, emergency aid of $ 20 million to send air bombers fight against wildfires in the Amazon, said Emmanuel Macron and Chilean President Sebastian Piñera.

In addition to this air fleet, the G7 has agreed on a medium-term assistance package for reforestation, which will be finalized during the UN General Assembly in late September and will require agreement. Brazil and work with NGOs and local people.

This "initiative for the Amazon" was announced at the end of a session of the G7 summit devoted to the environment, during which the situation in the Amazon was discussed, which causes great international concern.

Emmanuel Macron made the situation in the Amazon one of the priorities of the summit, calling Saturday for a "mobilization of all the powers" to fight against fire and reforest.

According to the latest figures, 79,513 forest fires have been recorded in Brazil since the beginning of the year, with just over half in the Amazon. Under international pressure, Brazil finally came into action on Sunday in the Amazon, sending in particular two C-130 Hercules planes.
