The Academy of Fine Arts has elected the architect Pierre-Antoine Gatier in the chair occupied by Paul Andreu (1938-2018), architect of Roissy, announced Wednesday the Institut de France.
New member of the architecture section alongside Jacques Rougerie, Aymeric Zublena, Alain Charles Perrot, Dominique Perrault, Jean-Michel Wilmotte, Marc Barani and Bernard Desmoulin, 60-year-old Pierre-Antoine Gatier "has shown his commitment to the achievements modern reinforced concrete of the 20th century, "greeted the release of the Institute.
He was particularly known for having restored iconic resort residences, from Villa Kerylos to Villa E-1027, in the South. His agency is now involved in the development of restoration projects and enhancement of major monuments such as the Domaine de Chantilly, the Villa Medici in Rome, the Bourse de Commerce and the Opéra Comique in Paris.
The French architect Paul Andreu, who died last year, had made the Grande Arche de la Défense at the gates of Paris. He had established himself internationally as the architect of airport projects: the colossal project of Roissy airport and its RER station, but also complete airports or terminals around the world: a total of twenty. He has also directed several prestigious projects in China, such as Beijing's Grand National Theater, Guangzhou Sports Complex, Oriental Arts Center Shanghai.
