Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi has formally submitted his resignation to the Iraqi parliament, Iraqi parliamentary sources said.
The sources confirmed that Abdul Mahdi handed over an official letter of his resignation from the post of Iraqi Prime Minister to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohammed Halbousi. Jihad al-Hashimi, Secretary General of the Council, Hamid al-Ghazi.
The Cabinet said in a subsequent statement that it held an extraordinary session called by Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi to present the subject of his resignation and the government and submitted to the House of Representatives, and to discuss the consequences of the government of the day-to-day running of things in accordance with the Constitution.
