A DANA threatened again to the Mediterranean coast this week. The Isolated Depression in High Levels will arrive in Spain during the night from Monday to Tuesday and "locally strong and persistent rainfall is expected in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands , which could already be torrential tomorrow in points north of the Valencian Community and the coast of Catalonia , as the State Meteorology Agency (AEMET) has alerted.

This new DANA arrives just over a month after the episode that claimed seven victims, flooded the Vega Baja region of Alicante and created serious problems in Murcia due to the overflow of the Segura river at several points. The damage it caused, estimated by the Insurance Consortium, reached 190 million euros.

The Dana will be accompanied by a cyclogenesis process, which will begin in northern Algeria, extending between Tuesday and Wednesday through the western Mediterranean to the peninsular northeast. Therefore, "locally strong and persistent rainfall is expected. On Wednesday 23," the most likely area of more intense rainfall "corresponds to the northeast of Catalonia and also to points of the Cantabrian area.

It is likely that the highest amounts of accumulated rainfall throughout the episode are recorded in the north of the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands and, above all, in Catalonia, where more than 200 liters can be accumulated in some areas .

The AEMET also warns of the maritime storm between the Mediterranean peninsular facade and the Balearic Islands, which can reach strong winds and strong waves on the coastlines and coastal areas, especially throughout Tuesday.

Less intense than in September

According to Aemet's head of Climatology in the Valencian Community, José Ángel Núñez, the DANA that arrives "has nothing to do with that of September", because the flow of humid air "will not be as intense" as it was then.

Tomorrow, it will be "an adverse day", but after noon the instability will move to Ibiza, and Alicante and Valencia will be protected from rainfall, which will continue in the afternoon in Castellón, where the level of orange alert for risk of precipitation from 100 liters per square meter could be prolonged, especially in the north.

This Monday the AEMET has activated yellow level warnings (risk) for rains in Alicante, Valencia, Ibiza and Formentera, Mallorca and Menorca.

During the day, in fact, cloudy or overcast skies are already expected, with rainfall that can be locally strong, persistent and with storms , mainly during the second half of the day, in the southern Mediterranean area and in the Balearic Islands, according to the prediction of the AEMET for this Monday.

There will also be rains and showers in the Cantabrian, Pyrenees and eastern Catalonia, and it is not ruled out that it is dispersed in mountainous areas of the peninsular east and north thirds. In the Canary Islands, rainfall is likely on the islands of greatest relief.

The snow level will range between 1,800 and 2,000 meters in the Pyrenees, and will be around 1,600 and 1,800 meters in the other mountainous areas, although the probability of snowfall will be low.

Daytime temperatures will experience an increase in the Plateau, and will decrease in the Mediterranean area and in the Canary Islands. The minimums will have a generalized decline, with weak frosts expected in mountain areas of the northern half.

With regard to the winds, they will be from the northeast in Galicia, bordering on this component in the Cantabrian and the Mediterranean area. There will be intervals of fort in the lower Ebro, Gulf of Valencia and the Balearic Islands, while in the Canary Islands, the winds will be from the northeast and north.
