At least one man was entrenched on Wednesday in a museum in Saint Raphael, in southeastern France, on whose walls menacing messages were written in Arabic, he told a police source.
The police had the building surrounded , where the man, possibly with an accomplice, broke into the middle of the night and refuses to communicate with the police or surrender.
One of the graffiti says that "the museum is going to become hell," the source said.
The police, who were alerted early in the morning, did not say if he or the entrenched people were armed or if they had hostages.
The archaeological museum of Saint Raphael is part of the list of historical monuments in France. It is located in the heart of this city of the French Riviera, next to a medieval church.
