The body of the woman "bore traces of strangulation and wounds to the thorax by stab," said Tuesday the prosecutor of the Republic of Saint-Nazaire.

A hanged man and a woman whose body bore traces of strangulation were found Monday evening in a house in La Plaine-sur-Mer, Loire-Atlantique, said Tuesday at the prosecutor's office in Saint-Nazaire.

The body of the woman "bore signs of strangulation and wounds to the thorax by stabbing," said AFP correspondent Sylvie Canovas-Lagarde, an attorney for the Republic of Saint-Nazaire. Knives were found next to the body, she said. The 43-year-old man was found nearby, hanging at the entrance to the house, she added.

The two forty-year-olds had been separated for two years and lived in Couëron, in the Nantes conurbation. According to the first elements of the investigation, the house where the two bodies were found would be a second home that belonged to the couple in La Plaine-sur-Mer, a town bordering the Atlantic Ocean about thirty kilometers to the south from Saint-Nazaire.

The couple had three children

The prosecution also indicated that the couple had three minor children, aged 13, 16 and 17, who were absent at the time of the incident. She is close to the woman, who was worried about not having news, who gave the alert.

In 2018, 121 women were killed in domestic violence, according to the official count of the Ministry of the Interior.
