A child died in the night from Monday to Tuesday in the fire of a building in Schiltigheim, north of Strasbourg, which also caused eight injuries and was controlled, said Tuesday firefighters.

"At present, nine victims are counted: eight in a relative emergency and a dead child, found inside the disaster," say firefighters in a statement. Some victims have defended themselves. Firefighters arrived on site shortly before 4am, called for a fire in the common of a two-story building. "When help arrives, the fire is for an apartment on the first floor," they explained.

Shortly before 7am, the fire was under control. "The operations of extinguishing then of cut will be of long duration", warned the firemen.
