A large majority of Canadians take a dim view of the arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their territory. according to a survey by the Nanos institute for the CTV channel? 77% of citizens do not want to pay for the security of the British royal couple.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently moved to the outskirts of Victoria, British Columbia. But not being present as representatives of Queen Elisabeth II, Canada's head of state, the taxpayers refuse to undergo the note for the safety of the couple. This matter has not been the subject of any official announcement. Authorities have just indicated that discussions are taking place.

A less and less defended monarchy

Only 19% of Canadians would not be hostile to paying to keep the couple safe. On the other hand, more than two-thirds of Canadians believe that the privacy of the couple and their son will be better respected by Canadians than it has been in the United Kingdom. 71% also consider that the media attention for Harry and Meghan Markle will be significantly less or a little less than on the other side of the Atlantic.

Perhaps more worrying in the long run for Canadian monarchists: only 32% of those polled are fully in favor of maintaining ties with the royal family and the status of their country's constitutional monarchy. 28% are in favor, but more lukewarm, and 35% would more or less wish to abolish links with the British monarchy.
