09 April 2020 Estimates and analyzes on the impact of the pandemic on the global economy, in particular on the most exposed populations, are multiplying. Half a billion people at risk of poverty from coronavirus. This was stated by Oxfam, estimating that 6-8% of the world population could slip into poverty in the absence of rapid aid.

If the estimates were true, it would be a ten-year step back in the fight against poverty and a 30-year step back in some areas of sub-Saharan Africa.

The warning comes a few days after the start of the work of the IMF and World Bank spring meetings.

"Two billion people work in the informal sector with no access to sick pay —the majority in poor countries where 90% of jobs are informal compared to just 18% in rich nations." @ Oxfam's @Chema_Vera
