At least five people have been killed and 21 injured in indiscriminate gunfire in western Texas, US authorities said.

At least one gunman opened fire indiscriminately while driving around Odessa and Midland, police said.

It confirmed that the suspect hijacked a car belonging to a US postal service company.

Police announced that a suspect, a white man, was shot dead near the Synergy district of Odessa, and that the shooting had stopped for the time being, but other suspects were reportedly being interrogated.

Police said the incident began after a police officer stopped a car on a highway in Midland.
