An explosion caused by a "technical error" at the airfields in the countryside of Homs, Saturday, led to the occurrence of a number of dead and wounded, while the Syrian Observatory questioned the Syrian regime's story about the technical error.

The explosion occurred on Saturday afternoon as a result of a technical error in the transfer of expired ammunition and led to a number of deaths, according to the Syrian news agency SANA.

The agency did not say how many were killed or injured in the blast.

But the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the number of members of the regime forces and loyalists who were killed by an explosion at the airport on Saturday afternoon rose to 30, indicating that the outcome is likely to rise to the presence of wounded, some of them in serious cases.

"The reasons are still unclear if they were caused by a technical or technical malfunction," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the observatory.

Shaerat airport is one of the most prominent military airports in Syria, and was spread by Iranian fighters supporting the regime forces. It was targeted by US missiles in April 2018 in response to a sarin gas attack on the city of Khan Sheikun (northwest), which Washington accused Damascus of carrying out and was responsible for more than 80 civilians.
