The tenth version of the Android operating system is now available for many phones and soon more terminals will be added. Do you want to get the most out of it? These 10 tricks will make your life much easier. Some are also compatible with previous versions of Google software.

Move to the dark side

Android 10 now offers a "dark mode", which minimizes the use of white backgrounds in the system. It seems an aesthetic fad but there are advantages in this mode of visualization. If our phone has a screen with OLED technology, a dark background helps increase the autonomy of the phone, for example, and is also much more pleasant to see when we are in a room with low light.

Not all apps are ready for this new mode, but many have already been updated. Activating it is easy (although not all phones allow it to be done), just go to Settings> Display> Advanced> Device theme and select it. It is also possible to access the option through the drop-down configuration menu from the quick configuration slider menu.

Share the code of the WiFi network with a friend

It happens to all of us. Someone comes home (a family member, a friend ...) and asks us for the password of the WiFi network. If we have configured it, it may be an easy password to remember and type, but if it is one of the default ones selected by the operator, it can be gibberish that forces you to turn the router around and dictate letter by letter. Android allows you to share these connections much more easily.

Simply go to the Settings> Network> WiFi menu and select the network you want to share (whether it is the one we have active or not). A page with the network information and the sharing option will open. Pressing on it will show on the screen a QR code that another Android user can scan to access the network (in Settings> Network> WiFi and selecting the QR code icon next to the Add Network option).

Move to the Google camera app

It is likely that your phone comes with a camera application created by the manufacturer itself to take full advantage of the sensors integrated in the phone, but it is always a good idea to have the official Android camera application, known as Gcam, on the device, well as a default option or as an accessory application for certain scenes. Why?

The Google application has many advantages, including a processing algorithm for night photos of very good quality and a portrait mode far superior to the competition. This app in principle is only intended to work on Pixel phones but it is possible to find versions adapted to other phone models.

To install it, yes, you must enable the Installation from Unknown Sources in the Settings> Security menu, and make sure that the file downloaded from the application does not come from a suspicious site. The XDA-Developers forum maintains an updated list of modifications for each phone model.

Free up space with an official Google app

Many apps promise to help you free your phone's memory space, but it is risky to trust any developer for this task. After all, for an app to free up space effectively it has to have access to the phone's files.

Fortunately, Google itself has an app that helps free memory space and also serves to search for files and messages on the phone. Its name is Google Files and can be downloaded from the official Android application store. It is the safest way to have everything tidy and clean.

Open two applications at the same time on the screen

Do you want to envy your friends with iPhone? With this trick you will get it. Android allows you to open two applications simultaneously on the phone screen, splitting the available surface in two.

To access this mode, click on the button that opens all recent applications and, in the list, click on the icon of the application you want. The "split screen" option will appear and when selected, that application will be at the top, while at the bottom it will give us the option to open another application.

Keep in mind that not all applications are compatible with this mode, but it can be a useful trick when you have to, for example, take notes while browsing a web page.

Scan documents correctly

We have all taken a photo of a document with the intention of sending it or printing it later but the camera is not the best way to generate a digital copy of a physical document. The Google Drive application, on the other hand, offers us a good tool to do so and saves us from installing third-party applications.

Simply press the + sign in the lower right corner of the application and select "Scan." The application will not only take the photo of the document but will delete the rest of the scene and highlight the text to make it more readable, generating a PDF at the end of the process.

Program do not disturb mode to avoid distractions

The "do not disturb" mode of Android saves us sounds and vibrations of notifications at inopportune moments. Many of us activate it before going to sleep, for example, to make sure that a call or message does not wake us up in the middle of the night. But it is also a useful tool when we need to concentrate or if we want to make sure the phone does not ring during a meeting.

You can schedule specific periods per day for this mode in the option Settings> Sound> Do Not Disturb> Schedules and even select what type of notifications we do want to receive. Thus, for example, it is possible to create a mode that, from Monday to Friday, during business hours, allows calls and messages to sound, but silences notifications.

Select text easily

If you are writing a document or a very long note, selecting, cutting and pasting text with the traditional Android selector can be a bit heavy. If we have the Google keyboard (Gboard) installed, there is a much simpler option.

By clicking on the icon with the arrow ">" at the top of the keyboard and the three ellipses that appear at the end of the options displayed, you can access a text editor that allows you to scroll through the document with a cursor similar to the one we would use , for example, in a conventional computer, and with shortcuts to select all the text if we wish.

Postpone notifications

The notifications of the different applications installed on the phone can arrive at the most inopportune moments but that does not mean that they are not useful. If a notification is important but we cannot attend it, it is possible to activate a function that delays it a few minutes or a few hours so that it jumps at a more opportune moment.

This option is disabled by default in Android 10, but it is easy to activate. Just go to the Settings menu> Notifications> Advanced Options. Once activated, when sliding notifications as if we were going to delete it, a new option will appear that allows you to program a repetition of it in 15 minutes, 30 minutes or one hour.

Discover which apps bother you the most

Speaking of notifications, do you think you get too many? There is an easy way to check which applications send you the most notifications during the week.

On the Settings> Apps and Notifications> Notifications screen, at the bottom, there is a list of recently sent notifications. The last option allows you to see the list of all sent in the last 7 days and once in that list you can filter the applications by frequency of notifications.

Do not have mercy.
