The General Assembly of the Football Association, during its extraordinary meeting held yesterday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai, chaired by the Vice-President of the Federation Transitional Committee, Abdullah Nasser Al-Junaibi, elected a committee to supervise the elections of the Federation’s Board of Directors for the new session 2020-2024, as the committee included both the advisor Salem Bahyan Al-Amri, Muhammad Rashid Al-Hafiti, Hamad Khamis Hamad, Abdul Rahman Al-Amri and Abdul Rahman Al-Sharhan, in addition to two other reserve members, Jassim Al-Muaini and Mona Khalifa Al-Shamsi, bearing in mind that, according to Article VI of the electoral list, the duration of the commission’s work is four years, to be effective From the date of its election.

According to the text of Article 11 of the electoral list, there are 19 tasks awaiting the committee, among them, in addition to assuming oversight of the election process for the Board of Directors of the Football Association, determining the date and procedures for opening the candidacy door, determining the period for the candidate to withdraw the candidacy, and determining the date of a meeting The general assembly for the election of the Board of Directors.

It is expected that the election committee, during its first meeting, will choose a chairperson from among the members who were elected by the general assembly, and Chancellor Salem Bahyan Al-Amri is considered the most prominent candidate for the chairmanship of the committee.

The General Assembly also elected a committee to appeal the electoral process, which included: Maed Muhammad Juma, Tariq Abdul Rahman and Salem Abdullah Sultan, while two alternate members were elected, Muhammad Mir Amiri and Faisal Jassem Al-Sinani.

The association was attended by 27 of the 31 clubs.

The Football Association Secretary-General, Mohamed Hazam Al-Dhaheri, confirmed in press statements after the General Assembly, that the association agreed that the UAE Football Association be a member of the Football Association Board, without having the right to vote on the decisions issued by the Football Association.

He added: “Regarding the amendments to the bylaw for the Football Association elections, the General Assembly decided to make an amendment to the text of Article 52 of the Basic Law, allowing clubs to submit the names of their candidates to the election committee, then the president nominated for the presidency of the federation chooses from among those names his candidate list for the Board of Directors, where There was objection by some members of the public to the mechanism for the nomination of the President of the Federation Board of Directors, which stipulated that he first submit his list in full, after the approval of his candidacy for the presidency, but the clubs rejected this ».

Al-Dhaheri pointed out that the general assembly agreed that running in the union elections be based on a list system, as an alternative to the previous system, which is the direct candidacy by clubs.

He continued: “The general assembly agreed that the formation of the council alongside the president of the union be as follows: five representatives of professional clubs, and three amateur clubs, and the same by appointment, provided that among them is a member of the female component.”

On the other hand, the UAE Football Association held an extraordinary general assembly, and decided to form a committee for the elections of the association’s board of directors. The committee included: Khaled Saeed Al Naqbi, Mohammed Rashid Al Hafiti, Mohammed Al Ameri, Adnan Al Hosani, Sheikha Al Kaabi, while the Appeal Committee included: Mohammed Al Jabri, Khalfan Al Shamsi, Abdullah Bu Amim, Ali Al Kaabi and Mubarak Al Hammadi.

The association witnessed a heated discussion, especially with regard to the amendments to the articles of association of the Football Association and the list of board elections.

The most prominent amendments were made to the articles of association of the Football Association, while the most prominent amendments to the bylaw of the Football Association Board of Directors were the establishment of elections in the lists system, and the granting of professional clubs five seats in the Board of Directors, three seats for amateur clubs, and the same by appointment.
