November 19, 1824 (November 7 according to the old style) in St. Petersburg was the largest and most destructive flood in the history of the city. The water in the Neva River and adjacent channels due to heavy rain and southwestern wind rose 4.14-4.21 meters from the ordinar (average water level in the reservoir). According to official figures, the elements claimed the lives of 480 people, destroyed many buildings, causing damage to the city's infrastructure in the amount of about 20 million rubles in the money equivalent of that time.
