$ 170 million to renew player's contract with NBA

The Philadelphia Sixers have reached an agreement with Australian player Ben Simmons to extend his five-year contract with the US basketball club for $ 170 million within the maximum allowable wage limit, according to press reports.

US agent ESPN quoted agent Rich Paul as saying he would reach an agreement from now, although both parties had until mid-October to extend the contract.

The new terms for the contract will be in place from the 2020-2021 season, by the end of the last year of the current decade for Simonsohn, 22, with Philadelphia.

The news of the extension of the contract comes after Paul's comments to the US network, in which he expressed doubts that the player will join the national team during the World Cup, which will kick off this year in China between 31 August and 15 September, to leave for his preparations for next season.

Simmons was named the best rookie in the NBA for the 2017-2018 season, missing the 2016-2017 season due to injury.

The player, who was the first choice in the DRAFT for college, high school and foreign players to enter the league in 2016, averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game.

Simmons made his debut in last season's All-Star match, scoring 22 double doubles in his first season.

Simmons joined the legendary Oscar Robertson as the only player to score at least 10 "Triple Dables" (at least 10 in three individual statistical categories) in his first two seasons in the American league.

The move comes as part of the consolidation of the ranks for at least four years, with the extension of the contracts of Cameroon's Joel Emped and Tobias Harris, and the contract with Dominic Alfred "Al" Horford of the Boston Celtics, in pursuit of the title for the first league since 1983.

Philadelphia came out last season in the semi-finals of the Eastern Province for the second year of the second round.
