"The numbers are staggering." The ARS Ile-de-France does not hide it, hospitals in the region are preparing to reach their saturation point. While the peak of the coronavirus epidemic is not yet reached, the Ile-de-France hospitals are already overwhelmed by the waves of patients who come there every day. 1,400 resuscitation beds are occupied there, out of the 1,500 available.

"Freeing beds for new patients"

"We will be able to hold this weekend," promises the director of the ARS Ile-de-France, Christophe Devys. The hospitals will still "hold up" thanks to the 500 additional beds added for patients arriving on Saturday and Sunday. All are equipped with artificial respirators and supervised by an army of caregivers.

But for the following, those who will appear next week, we will have to make room, says the director general of crisis of public assistance and hospitals in Paris, Bruno Rioux. "The idea is clearly to be able to transfer a certain number of patients as soon as possible to regions that have not yet had much impact in terms of resuscitation. This will allow us to free beds for new patients", specifies- he.

The contingent of caregivers strengthened

Fifteen patients will therefore leave the Paris region over the weekend, heading to the Center-Loire Valley. And since the crisis promises to be long, we must also think of further strengthening the contingent of caregivers. These are now second and third year medical students who will come to lend a hand, as well as physiotherapy students and from speech therapy schools.
