The African continent and the savannah in the background.

A mix between players from African countries and those with Cameroonian or Ghanaian nationality… The Spanish newspaper

Marca

has been at the heart of a controversy this Monday morning since the publication of its issue of the day.

Its cover, devoted to Real Madrid, is titled "Africa Power", accompanied by a montage of Karim Benzema, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Ferland Mendy, Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba around a reproduction of the African continent.

These players would represent "the African blood" of Real Madrid.

So.

Except that among all these players highlighted, none has the nationality of an African country.

And, apart from Eduardo Camavinga, born in a refugee camp in Angola and who left the continent very young to join France, none was born on African soil.

Karim Benzema (Lyon), Aurélien Tchouaméni (Rouen), Ferland Mendy (Meulan-en-Yvelines), David Alaba (Vienna) and Antonio Rüdiger (Berlin) were all born in the country they represent in the selection.

“A new roadmap”?

These players would be, according to the Spanish daily, in the right line of Cameroonians Samuel Eto'o and Geremi Njitap, as mentioned in one.

In the article, there is also talk of Mahamadou Diarra (Mali), Michael Essien (Ghana) or Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo).

The article seeks to explain, very awkwardly, Real Madrid's "new roadmap" in terms of the transfer window.

“Although Real's major recruiting grounds are in Argentina or Brazil, lately the club has developed a path, opened many years ago, which is consolidating with players like Camavinga, Tchouaméni or Alaba.

African blood is present in Madrid”, it is written in particular.
