The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, which highlights Östersund as an example in its latest report "Sweden is buzzing 2020". In Östersund, for example, meadow flowers are allowed to grow, instead of being kept short.

- It is good for many different insects that can pollinate crops that then become food for us humans, says Frida Larsson, city gardener in Östersund to SVT Nyheter Jämtland.

In addition to not mowing meadows, the municipality plants flowers that are early, so that the insects have food in the spring. Some areas are also mowed after flowering and the grass is then collected and vegetation at roadside may grow.

The municipality is also happy to accept tips on areas that can become oases for pollinating insects.

- Yes, you are very welcome to contact us, says Frida Larsson.
