As advance reservations for vaccinations for those in their 50s began, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's reservation system revealed a major loophole.

I divided the reservation period by dividing the age, but it had no effect.

There were 1.5 million people aged 53-54 years old, but the initial temporary demand for access reached 10 million.

Many people tried to make a reservation for one person using multiple devices, so it is natural that the number of connection requests is higher than the target number.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) promised to prevent recurrence each time, but to no avail.

We tried to find alternatives by expanding the actual server and transferring some tasks to NAVER Cloud, but to no avail.

I was in a hurry to make a tinkering prescription.

If the bypass connection becomes a problem, it solves the problem, and if a bounce occurs, it guides the prevention measures, and so on.

There was no preemptive response.

Yesterday (21st), when the president rebuked the relevant staff and ordered the cooperation of the relevant ministries, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention distributed a material saying 'I deeply apologize to the people'.

However, there was no countermeasure here, only a request to "connect with ease."

Common sense of 'I can do it if I wait' didn't work

I spoke to many informants regarding the reservation chaos.

What I came to realize as I listened to the Word was that the people were not frustrated and angry just because of 'a long wait'.

Kim, 50, who lives in Incheon, tried to make a reservation at 8 pm on the 20th with two PCs and tablets on.

He said he already thought it would be difficult because he watched his wife, who is a childcare teacher, suffer next to her when she made a reservation for a vaccine.

But I couldn't make a reservation until 3:30 in the morning.

This is because after waiting for tens of thousands of people in front of the queue, when it is my turn, it returns to the initial screen again, because the bounce phenomenon was repeated.

After reconnecting, the waiting list was much higher.

It was the thought that it was 'not fair' that made Mr. Kim even more angry while he was trying to reconnect even in a situation where the cause was unknown.

"I'm staying up all night because I can't make a reservation, but some people say that they made a reservation through a bypass connection or something. That's a kind of cut-off. Ordinary citizens can't even sleep and wait for their turn, but they're kicked out and pushed out. Taking the time If you wait, of course, you have to make a reservation. If you wait, you should be able to do it, but I get angry because it doesn't work."

However, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) only repeated the words, "Please connect at a leisurely time when there are not many people." If you wait for the order, you can make a reservation, and the essence is to build a system that does not work with bypass connections.

In addition, the reason people flock right after the reservation starts is also an individual's effort to expand the range of choices. In particular, the proportion of the economically active population in their 50s is much higher than that of the elderly who were vaccinated in the first half of the year. This means there is a similar demand for avoiding work hours and finding medical institutions close to work.

Among the informants who actually called, the reservation could not be made due to a crash, so I made a reservation in the morning of the next day, but in some cases, reservations were possible even a week later than the desired date. It is difficult to reach the people's hearts with the request of the quarantine authorities, who repeat only the words 'please relax' and 'the vaccine is sufficient' while ignoring this demand.

In today's (22nd) afternoon briefing, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) increased the memory in the server to reduce the waiting time for access and prevent overload. He said he would continue to improve. Fortunately, the pre-booking for all 50s, which started at 8pm yesterday evening, was relatively smooth as the demand for visitors decreased relatively, and memory expansion in the server was made.

A son in his 20s, who said he made a reservation for his mother, said that he answered his mother's worries about 'what if there is no vaccine because the reservation is late?'

"We'll be able to get vaccinated because we've got enough vaccines. Don't worry."

Most people trust the government's announcement, and with this mind, they are enduring the long wait for a vaccine reservation.

The government's weak system and easy response can be a factor that undermines this trust.
