[Explanation] The world today is facing major changes unseen in a century. How has China disappeared due to the contingency situation?

Zhang Yunling, member of the Faculty of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chair Professor of Shandong University, and Dean of the Institute of International Studies of Shandong University, recently accepted an exclusive interview with China News Agency "East and West Questions". He believes that coping with changes in the world requires a more cooperative civilization in the East.

[Explanation] In recent years, Zhang Yunling has edited two books, "Hundred Years of Great Changes: The World and China" and "World Trends: Grasping the Pulse of Changes in the New Era", in-depth analysis of the great changes, world trends, and China's strategic opportunities.

In his view, China is at the center of major changes and is an important force driving change.

We seem to be out of the way, but if we change our way, we will be able to create another village.

Both of my books are like this. The main theme is basically positive. Unlike some books, the world is not like this.

In the new world, interdependence has not been cancelled.

[Explanation] The era needs new ideas and new civilizations.

Zhang Yunling believes that Eastern culture has rich content in promoting world peace, cooperation and development.

With the revival of China and other Eastern countries, Eastern thought and culture, which once made great contributions to world civilization, will play a unique role in a century of great changes.

Especially like East Asia multi-wheel drive, ASEAN is based on coordination and consensus, not based on institutional intervention. These things are more in line with Eastern ideological principles. It is tolerant and relaxed, but it is also a service, and everyone can get another one. Good thing, these things are in line with Chinese ideas.

[Explanation] Eastern culture emphasizes mutual respect, and all countries are equal regardless of size; it is normal for all parties to have differences, but everyone will work in a good direction; advocate harmony, harmony but difference, and mutual learning.

These are also the spirit of a community with a shared future.

Everyone is asking, what is a community of destiny?

No one can answer clearly. It is not an organization. It is an idea, which is embodied in various actions. This action is based on cooperation, not confrontation, such a dominant idea.

[Explanation] Zhang Yunling also mentioned that in terms of international changes, we cannot focus all the spearheads on Sino-US relations.

He said that the rapid increase in China's comprehensive strength has attracted great attention from all walks of life, especially the United States, which has increased its strategic vigilance and response to China.

Therefore, the meaning of Biden's comprehensive strategic competition is that I summarize it as a question of "who wins".

It is not like the Cold War. The Cold War is a question of who destroys the other side.

If Trump is still alone adjusting the US strategy, in the Biden period, he mobilized the West and expanded his circle of friends to jointly respond to this challenge from China.

Therefore, a comprehensive strategic competition is proposed.

Comprehensive, not only economic, not only political, not only military, but also various aspects. Some people say that it is institutional confrontation. I don't use the system very much. I think it is a different way of national governance.

[Explanation] Will China confront the United States?

Zhang Yunling believes that it is neither possible to simply answer "yes" or "no", to make "yes" possible and "no" to be more scientific.

After the end of the Cold War, that was a big change. We have come over. In this case, China and the United States have come to the forefront of confrontation. Can we avoid war?

Because I think war is a core issue, that is, as long as there is no war, there is room for other operations.

Peace is the biggest task now, and it is a common topic of mankind, because the lesson is the two world wars ahead.
