The 'Public Design Festival 2022', which explores the role and development potential of public design in everyday life, will be held from today (5th) at about 80 locations across the country, including Seoul Culture Station Seoul 284 and Seongsu-dong Public Design Special District.

The 'Public Design Festival' is a festival that brings together various aspects of public design that we have met and experienced in our daily life so that more people can feel the value and express their diverse voices.

This event gathered the results of the efforts and concerns to make our society safe and convenient through public design, and was prepared jointly by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft and Design Culture Promotion Agency (Gongjinwon).

The event will be held simultaneously for a total of 26 days in three main locations.

First, 'Culture Station Seoul 284', as the center of this event, opened an exhibition under the theme 'Gilmom Life: Widely Beneficial Design for Everyday Life', which can be used in public areas around us, such as playgrounds, markets, bus stops, neighborhoods, and cities. Artworks with design considerations are on display.

Second, 'Seongsu-dong Public Design Special Zone' introduces sustainable practices for each brand under the title '1% better: A small change to change the world'.

You can pay attention to what you add, subtract, multiply, and divide in your daily life, such as adding newness to existing things, subtracting wasted resources, and creating a new circular structure to contribute to a 1% better future for a better tomorrow.

Third, 'National Public Design Bases' will present 66 themed bases that show real examples of how government departments, metropolitan and local governments participated in solving problems through design.

In addition, you can get a glimpse of up to 12 first bases to introduce excellent public designs created for the virtuous cycle of ecology and social economy with the participation of public and private companies such as the Oil Tank Culture Park and the National Institute of Ecology.

Here are some notable public design cases among the thematic hubs.

Gyeonggi-do 'People of Longevity'

In front of a crosswalk in Gyeonggi-do, a yellow 'Chairman of Longevity' is installed.

This chair was developed by a police officer after hearing the complaints of elderly people who said they couldn't wait for the crosswalk signal because their legs hurt during traffic safety education at a neighborhood senior center.

The name 'People of Longevity' means to reduce traffic accidents and pray for the longevity of the elderly by providing a place where they can sit and rest for a while next to the crosswalk traffic lights.

Currently, it is being used by about 70 local governments nationwide including Namyangju/Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
