A man in his 50s, who repeatedly assaulted his grandmother in his 80s, was sentenced to a fine for assaulting his mother again a month after he was released from prison.

The reason for the fine was that the old woman did not want his son punished.

The 9th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Hee-in Chae) announced today (27th) that it had sentenced A (50), who was handed over to trial on the 21st for habitual assault, etc., to a fine of 2 million won.

Mr. A is accused of assault, including strangling his mother's neck with both his hands while intoxicated, at his home in Jung-gu, Seoul in February last year.

This is not the first time Mr. A has assaulted his mother.

Person A has a previous criminal record of being sentenced to probation for injury to an ancestor and assault on an ancestor in 2014, suspended indictment twice for injury to an ancestor in 2017, sent to a family protection case twice, and sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation.

Not only that, he continued to engage in habitual assault, and was sentenced to 8 months in prison in October 2019 for homicide and 8 months in prison for habitual intimidation in July 2020, and was released from prison in January of last year.

However, one month after being released from prison, he assaulted his mother again.

The court said, "The content of the crime was very disrespectful and it seems that the physical and mental pain that the mother must have felt was considerable." pointed out.

"However, considering the fact that the victim's mother does not want to punish A and all the sentencing factors such as A's age, sexuality, and environment, finally, I will give a fine punishment to A." We decided on the amount of the fine considering that we are completely financially dependent on our mother."
