A woman in her 30s who left her young daughter alone for 77 hours and died was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

According to the legal community today (25th), the second part of the Supreme Court (Chief Judge Cheon Dae-yeop) dismissed the appeal of Mr. A, who was recently charged with violating the Act on Special Cases concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes (Child Abuse and Murder), and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. A trial court confirmed the sentence.

Ms. A, who was raising a child alone after her last childbirth in 2018, has been charged with causing her daughter to die by leaving her daughter alone at her home for about 77 hours from July 21 to 24, 2021.

He left the child at home on July 21, 2021 to have a so-called 'lightning meeting' with people he met through an open chat room.

The highest temperature that day reached 33 degrees, but Mr. A left only a bag of cookies, bread and two juices, and the child eventually died.

Returning home late on July 24, Mr. A confirmed that the child's heart was not beating, but left the scene, and returned a few days later to check her corruption, but went out again.

In the end, A reported the incident to the police only on August 7th.

Mr. A, who was brought to court, claimed that he did not intend the death of the child, and that he had no intention of murder.

The court of first instance did not accept this and sentenced A to 20 years in prison.

However, in the second trial that followed, the court reduced Mr. A's sentence to 15 years in prison and said, "What was the reason that Mr. A thought it was okay to leave the victim alone and led to the crime in this case? It seems to have had some degree of influence,” he explained, explaining the reason for the sentencing.

"It seems that the accused did not show any affection to the victim from the beginning and fundamentally gave up child rearing," he said. added.

The case was transferred to the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court dismissed it, saying, "If you look at the various circumstances of Mr. A, it cannot be said that it is extremely unfair to sentence him to 15 years in prison."
