A 60-year-old monk has been sentenced to prison for killing a neighbor who protested that the flames were noisy.
The 1st Criminal Division of Geochang Branch of the Changwon District Court (Judge Shin Jong-hwan) announced today (21st) that monk A, who was charged with murder, was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
On November 21, last year, Mr. A was handed over to trial on charges of assaulting and killing Mr. B, in his 50s, with a blunt weapon, who came to protest at a courthouse in Hapcheon, Gyeongnam.
It is known that Mr. A played a recorded flame, but this sound was heard even at Mr. B's house, which lived nearby, and caused a conflict.

In the course of the trial, Mr. A claimed, "At the time, Mr. B ran and wielded a blunt weapon, so it was in self-defense," but the court did not accept this.
The court pointed out, "We prepared a blunt weapon at the gate in advance, and the fact that the victim fell and hit it several times is not considered self-defense."
He also explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "Even after killing a victim without a weapon with a blunt weapon, he did not consistently and reflect on excuses that are difficult to understand, such as 'calling me late and threatening me,' so severe punishment is necessary."
