[Pick] 'What the Chinese have done for 6 years' by stealing K-contents

 While Korean content is gaining popularity abroad, Chinese people have been arrested for illegally distributing Korean broadcasting content around the world for years.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 25th that as a result of investigation in cooperation with the Daejeon District Prosecutor's Office, two Chinese people were arrested for illegally transmitting Korean broadcasting contents abroad over the past six years.

One accused (62) arrested in Korea was arrested and prosecuted, and another accomplice, who remotely managed a broadcasting transmission facility in China, is proceeding with the extradition process by securing evidence through supplementary investigations in the prosecution.

Since 2016, in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, they have built broadcasting transmission facilities such as 28 Skylife set-top devices, 3 computers, and 2 encoders (broadcast signal converters) in relation to the father-in-law and son-in-law. Pad (EVEPAD) sold to illegal streaming server operators.

Numerous domestic contents have been distributed around the world without copyright protection by a group of Chinese without permission.

This arrest was a result of public-private collaboration between the Special Judicial Police Department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Patent Crime Investigation Department of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office, and broadcasting companies.

It is also the first achievement of arresting a domestic transmission plan for EVEPAD in a situation where consensus on regulations is growing, such as the need to introduce a law related to the ban on EVEPAD distribution and illegal IPTV enforcement at the Ministry of Science and ICT's comprehensive audit last year.

An official from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said, "We plan to quickly arrest other illegal broadcasters operating in Korea by continuously collaborating with broadcasters." We plan to focus our investigative powers on eradicating online crimes, such as promoting an international cooperative investigation.”
