1. It

wasn't an act of hiding his name, but I didn't even intend to inform the neighborhood.

Park Seung donated 1 billion won to his alma mater, Baekseok Elementary School, in Gimje, Jeollabuk-do last month.

In 2011, it also donated 500 million won to this school.

Last year, they donated 700 million won to Erie Public High School and 300 million won to Kim Dae-jung Peace Center in 2013.

When he was the governor of the Bank of Korea, he shared about 20% of his salary with neighbors in need and people from his hometown, and he spent 10 million won each year starting 10 years ago for library operation in his elementary school.

Looking at his words and actions so far, there will be many unknown good works.

It wasn't just money donated.

He also promised to donate eyeballs after death.

Originally, I tried to donate organs, but as I got older, I was told that donating organs was difficult, so I only donated eyes.

This man has 2 boys and 3 daughters and has 11 grandchildren.

As a grandfather, it is said that playing with them is the most enjoyable thing, but how can I leave my grandchildren who will not get sick even if I put it in their eyes?

All of the children deserve to eat, but there will be children who are bothered by them.

The sadness that was kicked out in front of the school gate for lack of money is embedded in the bones, so he must be a man with money, but he is generously presenting it.

I arranged everything, leaving the house where I live and the money in Amman to spend the rest of my life.

Park Seung has been publicly saying that he will not leave his property to his children since 30 years ago.

He said that he shouldn't pass on his legacy even when he went out on TV, and he repeated these words as if he were nailed to newspapers and magazines.

The title of the poem review contributed to the Hankook Ilbo on August 18, 1998 was <Let's not inherit property>.

For him, he is keeping that promise.

Like most intellectuals' lives, this man has lived with horses ahead.

We know how many people do not follow their words.

There are many people who have closed their speech and break their brush because it is difficult to follow the words, and there are many people who suffer from word debt and writing debt all their lives.

Few people prove their words through actions, so this person's good works are more remarkable.

When I heard the news of this person's donation, I was curious about what he said and what he wrote.

2.

As soon as I sat on the faded sofa in the study of his home in Pyeongchang-dong, I asked him why he had donated.

"It's for society, but it's for

my happiness, for myself. To do

my part given. Individual or family achievement is a small happiness, but when I contribute to society and community, I can feel greater happiness. My great joy. This is an action for the sake of the future.” When

Park Seung-gun was the governor of the Bank of Korea in 2006, his fortune was 4.5 billion won.

Considering that he started his social life on a penny and was a professor for his entire life, he saved a lot of money.

I asked how to finance it, but I didn't answer that much in detail.

He was a capitalist believer, but he was also a scholar, so he didn't want to reveal how he made money.

However, he said that he had a lot of fun through government bonds.

As someone who chose economics to overcome poverty, he was active in financial technology.

Capitalism is a system that teaches the pursuit of profit and making money as a virtue, and he was a devoted believer in capitalism.

Since the pursuit of profit was a virtue, he too actively pursued virtue.

If you listen to the people around you and yourself, this person is very active in investing in stocks, and it seems that investing in stocks contributed greatly to the formation of wealth.

In my memoirs, it is said that every time I went to public office, I had stocked up.

According to the public officials' property disclosures in 2003, the loss of stock investments also reduced 900 million won a year.

It can be seen that the size of stock investment was large.

I have never subscribed to an apartment, and it is over seventy because it is difficult to manage a detached house.

I have never been next to real estate investment.

This person's belief is that speculation on real estate, which is a common good in our society, violates the interests of the community and future generations.

I am good at farming children.

I have two boys and three girls, but both sons are in universities and research institutes.

It is said that there is no problem with eating, but the more money you have, the more you want to have.

I was curious about the reaction of the children.

[Interview with Jin Park/Eldest

Son,

Professor at KDI Graduate School of Public Policy and Management]

"Since I was young, I thought it was natural. I didn't have enough money when I was young, but I don't think I have the property to pass on to my heart. I wanted to say this."

3.

Like most of this man and his contemporaries, this man was also poor.

He dreamed of becoming an economist in order to overcome his poverty and contribute to overcoming the poverty of this society

.

When I was in middle school, I experienced the Korean War.

The war he experienced in his sensitive days taught him the impermanence of ideology and the fear of politics in his life.

Innocent friends were killed, and the brothers in the neighborhood watched each other kill each other.

It was a horrifying experience.

I promised that I would never be stained with ideology and that I would not do politics.

There were several invitations from the political world, but the reason why he refused it was because he felt the heartlessness of politics at that time.

Born as the son of a peasant farmer in Gimje, Jeonbuk, he graduated from Seoul National University and entered the Bank of Korea investigation department where the elite of the elite gathered. After that, he went to study in the US and became a professor at Chung-Ang University at the age of 40. As it is.

Since becoming a professor at Chung-Ang University in 1976, his life has been solid.

He gained a reputation for his unobstructed speech and economic knowledge.

From the 1970s to the 2000s, his articles appeared in major newspapers almost every month.

He appeared on TV from time to time and made his name and face known.

At the end of his memoir <Looking at the Sky and Looking at the Stars>, there is a list of columns he has contributed to daily newspapers and magazines.

Even if you count it, there are over a few hundred.

As his name became known, he expanded his activities to the extent that it was difficult to find places beyond his reach, such as academia, relations, and companies.

At Chung-Ang University, he served as the dean of the University of Political Science and the Graduate School, and in academia, he was the president of the Korean Economic Association and the President of the International Economic Association.

There are more than 20 titles that he directly mentioned in his memoirs, including the examination committee member, the Financial Monetary Committee, the FKI advisory committee, and the chairman of the five-year economic development plan coordination committee.

But that doesn't mean he neglected his job as a university professor.

When I entered the lecture room, I gave a lecture'like a godless shaman burns.

Some say that if you enter the lecture room alone, you will be speechless, but he

captivated the students with

his

unique voice

.

Even after listening to the words of the people who listened to him, his lectures, a mixture of first-hand experiences in theory and relations, seem to have been quite popular.

He mainly lectured on economic development, international economics, and economic principles, but he was not a professor who lasted several years with one lecture note.

After lectures from the 1970s, students volunteered to evaluate the lectures.

It was because he thought that he could know what he lacks and needs to improve as a professor only by listening to students' evaluations.

It's a word of confidence.

Since 1976, he has worked for three years as a visiting journalist in charge of the economy of the Seoul Newspaper, which served as a government agency at the time.

As many as five times a week, I wrote editorials.

At this time, a story like a legend that he wrote an editorial editorial in 30 minutes occurred.

Because of his good writing, he received a scout offer from a leading newspaper owner.

It was at the end of the severe Yushin dictatorship, and he

said that he wrote editorials only with economic logic regardless of politics

.

I wondered whether politics and economy could be cut out so proactively.

4. When the

Roh Tae-woo administration was inaugurated, he experienced the heart of power as the chief economic officer of the Blue House, and as the Minister of Construction, he led the first new city construction project.

The Kim Dae-jung administration turned to his first office, the Bank of Korea, as governor.

The fact that this person served as a professor, served as a minister, served as the president of the Blue House, and became the governor of the Bank of Korea, and the stories that were moderated in the progressive and conservative regimes may be seen as an inspiring success story, and to some It can be read as an intellectual walk.

Up to this point, there is nothing more or less than an intellectual's success story.

The thing that pays attention to his life is that he didn't stop here.

This person is a humble person.

This is true in that they find the cause of their success in organizations and social systems rather than their own abilities.

Looking at the records of successful people, there is no point that emphasizes how much tearful efforts they have made through their own or by borrowing others' mouths.

However, it is difficult to find a section in this man's record that emphasizes such efforts.

After graduating from Erie Engineering High School, he passed the Naval Academy, but gave up on maritime education because of his desire to study economics.

I studied alone for a year and passed the Seoul National University counterpart.

I didn't go to an academy and didn't get help from other people.

My father was lying in a paralytic and my mother was an old man who passed the 60th birthday.

Farming, which was about 3,000 pyeong, was his job.

Farming during the day and studying at night was literally Jugyeongyadok.

There was no electricity, so I studied under a lamp.

There was no radio at home and no clock.

In such a situation, it was impossible to dream of going to college, and he did it.

"Pleasant! I made my wish now. I feel like the whole world is mine. I was wondering if it was the devotion of my mother who prayed for purified water every evening. It is my victory overcoming the difficult environment of poverty and achieving achievements. I have overcome this difficulty. Let's keep this spirit that has won and achieved achievement for the rest of our lives.” <In a diary written after passing an opponent at Seoul National University>

Isn't it possible that there will be a tremendous effort or dramatic story?

However, his memoirs of these days are too short.

“I worked hard during the day and spent a year studying with an oil lamp turned on at night. Because I work myself, my farming is good and my family's condition is improved, so I saved five kilns of rice in a year. This tuition fee was saved. It was enough to pay for the entrance procedure."

It is not only at this time that he has omitted the retrospective of his efforts.

Since 1972, he studied abroad at New York University in the United States for two years.

Park Seung returned after two years with master's and doctoral degrees.

Even after hearing his explanation of how this could be possible, I don't understand well.

What talent was it possible to get a master's and doctorate degrees in two years?

In his expression, it would have been a hole in a rock with a single needle, but there is little explanation for the process.

5.

Park Seung's life reads more interestingly if you think about it in connection with modern Korean history.

When I was in my fourth year of college, the 4-19 broke out.

I wondered what he did that day.

Seung Park explained in detail what happened of the day as if it was yesterday.

That morning, about 500 students gathered at the counterpart of Seoul in Jongam-dong and told that he was standing in the front row of Scrum, and that he had a demonstration in front of Lee Gi-bung's house in Seodaemun.

The memory of that day was clear, but it seems that the clear memory did not change his life.

He immediately returned to school after seeing the collapse of the Liberal Party regime and devoted himself to preparing for the Bank of Korea job test.

Park Chung-hee's military regime and his social life begin together.

Whether he was conscious or unconscious, he was a member of that era.

He was baptized with the spirit of the times of achievement-oriented and pragmatism.

His pace of success was as fast as the economy that grew at a high speed.

There may have been contributions to that era, but there were many things that were received from that era.

At that time, he escaped from poverty and achieved wealth, gained honor, and gained power.

It was the logic of the majority of those times that individual interests should be reserved for the benefit of the community.

Seung Park said that individual interests did not precede community interests.

I don't think we should sacrifice individual interests for the good of the community, but we believe that we should not pursue individual interests while harming the interests of the community.

Seung Park's thoughts can be said to be controversial words. Anyway, this argument does not seem to be irrelevant to the spirit of the era of development economy and achievement-oriented era.

While he was in college, the academy was never quiet for a moment as students protested against the dictatorship.

The university was the site of history where the agony of the times was revealed most sharply.

He felt resentful and angry at the repression of Chun Doo-hwan's regime in the 1980s, and tried to protect his disciples, but did not express political intentions.

It wasn't even listed on the professors' statement of state, nor were they told that they were close to the political world.

Considering that he wasn't a person who stayed in the laboratory alone

, his political silence during

the

dictatorship has meaning in itself.

The only incident he officially mentioned in relation to the situation of the times was the Gwangju Democratization Uprising.

I knew what was going on in Gwangju by looking at the Jihanmun Gate.

Knowing that a terrible thing was going on, he suffered, and went to Bukhansan Mountain to relieve his resentment.

His son Park Jin said that at the time, Park Seung suffered from helplessness as an intellectual, and that it was the time when Park Seung's life experienced the greatest frustration.

He was in pain, but stopped there.

They did not take the lead in protesting the slaughter, nor did they actively try to spread this tragic fact.

It was a time when many people didn't speak or were forced to be silent, but he wrote diligently

.

About the economy.

In June 1980, when the smell of blood in Gwangju was still vibrating, I wrote three articles in a daily newspaper.

The path of the Korean economy (June 6, 1980), the economic crisis can be overcome (Daedam, Dong-A Ilbo, 1980,6,14), and the road to industrial restructuring (Seoul Shinmun, 1966. .

Perhaps we believed that it was a way to contribute to our community.

6.

After the inauguration of the Roh Tae-woo regime, he was chosen as the chief economic secretary at the Blue House.

There was no one side view with Roh Tae-woo.

However, it doesn't seem like he thought it was unexpected at all to work for the government.

He was directly or indirectly involved in policy establishment and execution under various titles such as the Financial Monetary Commission under Chun Doo-hwan's regime, and he must have been interested in such work.

As a well-known economist, you would have wanted to have such an opportunity at least once.

He did not deny that he was happy when he received the nomination, and he considers Roh Tae-woo to be his benefactor.

Although Roh Tae-woo was at the heart of the new military, he thought about joining the new regime for a while, but he judged that the legitimacy dispute could be overcome in that he was elected president through direct elections by the people.

His lack of one-sided knowledge with the president and lack of experience in the administration were difficult difficulties he could easily overcome.

I haven't heard of him being the real chief.

My opinion was that it was not desirable for the Blue House secretary's office to take over the cabinet, but it seems that it was not that easy to take over the cabinet.

Within ten months of working as chief economy, he moved to the Minister of Construction.

The media expressed it as a demotion and zero war.

As the Minister of Construction, his biggest task was to build a new city.

Construction of new cities including Bundang and Ilsan was indispensable to keep the presidential election pledge of supplying 2 million houses, but there was also a strong backlash.

For him, whose main job is a scholar, this task seems daunting.

In the National Assembly, in the media, and even in the government, he heard hard criticism, and he never had a comfortable day.

In this process, he made a feud with Moon Hee-gap, the successor to the Blue House, and even the president turned him away.

He ended up being hard after 7 months.

After laying the foundations for the new city project, he left the ministerial position lightly, but it was not an honorable resignation.

His public life was more hurt than glory.

It seems like a good position as a minister, but in fact, it is a foreign currency guest.

While serving as a minister for seven months, he said that he spent more than 20 million won in personal money.

It will be based on a daily diary, so it will not be bullshit.

I was always chased by time and suffered complaints, and even then, I was criticized much more than being praised.

It wasn't that I was getting a lot of money, so it was much more painful than rewarding.

It was from this time that I really enjoyed the job as a professor that gave me time and money.

Moreover, since he was a former chief and experienced minister, his remarks began to take more weight.

Even after resigning from the post of minister, there were still many institutions, media, and organizations looking for him.

6.

Shortly after retiring from college, he was appointed as the second president of the Bank of Korea under the Kim Dae-jung administration.

There was no one side view with Kim Dae-jung.

It is surprising that he, who was a representative commentator from Honam, first took on a politician named Kim Dae-jung when he was appointed as the president of the Bank of Korea.

It may mean that he lived away from the political world, but it could also mean that the progressives recognized him as a conservative person.

Park Seung has been admiring Kim Dae-jung as an economical politician since the 1970s, but it is said that he has never expressed it outside.

In any case, it will not be irrelevant to his local ties that he, who served as a senior in the Roh Tae-woo administration, was re-adjusted in the progressive regime.

In his memoirs, he expressed his feelings of hearing the news of the appointment of the Bank of Korea governor as "I couldn't be so happy."

It would have been great joy to be the head of an organization that made its first step in society, and it would have been a pleasure to have the opportunity to promote independence and monetary reform, which is a common opinion.

He describes

his days as governor of the Bank of Korea as his golden age

.

Although the ambitious monetary reform failed, the BOK contributed to strengthening independence and the evaluation of employees was generally good.

He was happy as he spent one year in the Kim Dae-jung administration and three years in the Roh Moo-hyun administration.

The relationship with the two progressive presidents was also smooth.

During his tenure, the Bank of Korea employees did not have to worry about the price of meals if they accidentally met him at a nearby restaurant.

He always paid for the employees' meals, but at that time, Park Seung was pretty even looking at the backs of the employees of the Bank of Korea.

When he retired from his four-year term, employees presented a plaque of appreciation.

The phrase of appreciation would be what he wanted to hear.

"The governor who loved the Bank of Korea and its employees the most. The President of the Bank of Korea struggled the most to increase the independence and status of the Bank of Korea. The governor, who was selflessly anguish to overcome the difficulties of the Korean economy!"

He treated two Presidents Roh Tae-woo and Kim Dae-jung, who had elected him to public office, after retirement.

When President Roh Tae-woo was healthy, he exercised together or met with a couple, and even when he was imprisoned, he visited several times and did not abandon his loyalty.

After President Kim Dae-jung retired, he held meetings with the couple from time to time.

He was named on the Asia Pacific Foundation and actively participated in the event.

President Kim Dae-jung praised him for being a person whose head bowed the more he met, and that he was a great man who would receive a higher evaluation over time.

When President Kim Dae-jung passed away and the Asia-Pacific Foundation suffered from operating expenses, he also donated 300 million won, a sign of respect for President Kim Dae-jung.

Some people saw him doing his best to the two presidents and looked at him with a bit of a grim glance, asking how he could serve the two heavens, but he thinks that he is a deserved way to the grateful benefactor who recognized him and selected him.

7.

From the time of the Lee Myung-bak administration, he pointed out the limitations of export-led growth and insisted on continuing income-led growth.

For this, he has argued for over 10 years to increase the minimum wage, expand welfare policies through tax increases including corporate tax increase, and strengthen real estate ownership tax.

It is his firm belief that the vested interests should not insist on their own vested interests

.

These arguments are in line with the current Moon Jae-in administration's economic policy direction.

It is worth noting that these claims were made during the Lee Myung-bak administration and the Park Geun-hye administration.

The reason why he served as the advisory chair of the Moon Jae-in camp was probably because Moon Jae-in and his staff listened to his arguments during the opposition party.

When he served as the advisory chairman of Moon Jae-in's camp <National Growth> during the opposition party, his appearance makes me wonder how he lived while hiding the qualities of a politician.

His voice was high at the inauguration ceremony, and the expression that hyenas ate a company like eating a dead elephant was far beyond the expression of a scholar.

Was he somewhat excited about the idea of becoming the chairman of the camp of the leading politician of the 1st opposition party, but he seemed to be taking a step into the realm of politics, but he didn't go any further.

After the inauguration of the Moon Jae-in administration, the government did not find him.

At our age, we are eighty-five years old this year, and seeing that we speak on the air show, it is correct as if we would be able to do it even now if we leave the job.

Even now, I drive myself and do not skip exercise every day.

In his home library in Pyeongchang-dong, where all his life records were stored, he showed one thing to a reporter and boasted.

It was a heavy economic note.

There were two dozen-page notebooks with various numbers on them.

Even now, I write down the records I saw, stories I heard, newspaper articles, and statistics of economic institutions such as the Bank of Korea in this way.

For 15 years after leaving the field, there are still many people who are looking for wisdom as well as answers.

It is probably thanks to his experience as a scholar, as an economic critic, and as a policy executive, and his efforts to keep abreast of current issues.

As a professor, he emphasized that students should have the ability to explain matters easily.

When he hears him explain on the air, he has the ability to easily tell difficult stories.

It feels like being taught by a tutor.

Perhaps because of this ability, President Roh Tae-woo at the time as a senior at the Blue House said it was a waste to listen alone, and called his eldest daughter So-young Noh to listen to him at the economic briefing of Senior Park Seung.

His forecasts and forecasts related to the economy were not always accurate.

In 2009, he said several times that in the next 10 years, home prices would plummet.

He said that even if he tried to sell a house, an era would come when he couldn't sell it, referring to the example of Japan and the housing penetration rate, but the prediction was contrary to reality.

Nowadays, he says, in 10 years, home prices will plummet.

It remains to be seen if he is correct in 10 years.

8.

I find this person everywhere.

He, too, does not reject the call.

After the fact of donation became known, more people were looking for him.

He was like a national economics teacher, but these days he seems to have taken the role of a national ethics teacher in addition to that.

Whatever the qualifications, this person deserves an invitation and deserves to speak up in the seat.

This person's actions

serve as a model

for

others, but also a whip

.

How many people live with words and writings that are not responsible for our society, and how many people live with constant debt.

For such people, the existence of this person is a ruin in itself.

This man left four of his five children without giving out wedding invitations.

In Korea, I hated that wedding invitations were like tax bills, and in the end, it was a nuisance to people around me.

“When I married the two without telling others, my friends and acquaintances were disappointed. So, thirdly, I took 3-400 wedding invitations around and gave them to people to call. Many guests came and had a grand wedding. Congratulations money. I came in a lot, but when I recorded how much someone paid and how much, I felt that this wasn't really a thing to do. So, under that, the two just called their families and held an event."

He published a memoir in 2010 under the title <Looking at the Sky and Looking at the Stars>.

This memoir is incomplete.

No, it's sloppy.

There are many parts that are missing what they deserve, parts that require more elaborate and detailed techniques are omitted, and there are scenes that seem to swallow the confession at the moment when it is necessary to confess.

Memoirs are reading with the taste of honestly speaking of one's life as it is, but his memoirs cannot be said to have such virtues.

Of course, there are several confessions.

For example, he is running for the president of Chung-Ang University as the most wrong decision.

However, even this gets the impression that it is trying to cover the whole with a partial confession.

All these flaws are covered by the final chapter of the subtitle <Any suffering, pain, sickness, and death will be grateful.

In this sentimental and touching article, Seung Park asks:

Have I lived worthy of the order of the universe?

What does it mean to live in this vast universe for the interests of a small being, me and my family, and to pursue the interests of the moment in eternity?

Ask.

He writes that billions of dollars of wealth are meaningless if they are not earned and used in accordance with the order of this great universe, and this is the same for power and honor, he writes.

And I regret it like this.

The time I lived for others was too short.
