Last month, a nurse at Asan Medical Center in Seoul collapsed from a brain hemorrhage and there was no surgeon.

According to the on-site inspection result data submitted to the National Assembly by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the 9th, the medical staff of Asan Hospital first contacted the medical staff of Korea University Guro Hospital and requested all of them in the process of finding a hospital where surgery is possible while treating Nurse A at dawn on the 24th of last month. I did.

However, the medical staff of Korea University Guro Hospital replied, "The doctor who can perform the operation is outside the hospital and it is difficult because it takes a lot of time to return."

At the time, Mr. A was in a state of subarachnoid hemorrhage due to rupture of a cerebral aneurysm.

However, not only Asan Hospital, but also at Korea University Guro Hospital, there were no doctors on duty who could operate.

Korea University Guro Hospital, which operates emergency medical centers by region, received the highest grade of A in the evaluation of emergency medical institutions by the Ministry of Health and Welfare last year.

An official from Korea University Guro Hospital explained, "Considering the patient's condition at the time, both craniotomy and coin embolization were necessary, but there were no doctors on the same day who could do both."

In the end, Mr. A was finally transferred to Seoul National University Hospital and died after fighting for several days.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare decided that this case was not a problem unique to Asan Hospital and Korea University Guro Hospital, and decided to inspect all 45 tertiary general hospitals.

First of all, in preparation for an emergency operation, we plan to instruct them to self-check whether the medical treatment, power supply, and transport system are in place.

An official from the Ministry of Health and Welfare explained, "We plan to send an official letter to tertiary general hospitals today to request cooperation in inspection."

Earlier, on the 4th, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Songpa-gu Public Health Center conducted an on-site inspection of Asan Medical Center in Seoul for 8 hours.

As a result of the inspection, two doctors who were able to perform craniotomy on the same day were on leave, and two professors, a professor capable of cerebrovascular intervention and an intensive care unit professor, were on duty.

No violations were found under the Medical Act, and the inspection team determined that the necessary measures were taken without delay.
