The police summoned and investigated the union executive for the first time today (20th) in relation to the National Workers' Congress in downtown Seoul, which was led by the National Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU).
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's July 3 Illegal Demonstration Investigation Headquarters said today that it had called the Vice-Chairman of the KCTU A to the Jongno Police Station to investigate violations of the Assembly and Demonstration Act, the Infectious Disease Prevention Act, and allegations of traffic obstruction related to the workers' convention.
It is known that the investigation started at 10 am and lasted about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Earlier, the Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) held a national workers' conference of about 8,000 (organizer estimates) in the Jongno-gu area of Seoul on the 3rd, and after the rally, three of the participants were diagnosed with Corona 19.
A police official said, "This is the first summons investigation related to the July 3 National Workers' Convention."
"We will promptly and strictly investigate illegal acts that threaten the lives and safety of the people by forcing large-scale illegal assemblies at a critical time in which the infectious disease is spreading," the official said.
The police are known to have asked Vice-Chairman A to attend twice.
The police also asked Yang Kyung-soo, chairman of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions, to attend three times, and it is said that the schedule is currently being adjusted.
Chairman Yang attended the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul on the 7th and received an investigation in relation to the KCTU rally held in May and June.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency organized a special investigation headquarters of 52 people, headed by the head of the investigation department, and started the investigation, and so far, 23 people have been arrested.
