The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has stated that it thwarted 208,773 cyber attacks on websites in the country during the first five months of this year, after the escalation of attacks by cyber criminals trying to exploit the repercussions of the emerging Corona Virus crisis (Covid-19).
In a report issued yesterday, entitled "The State of Cyber Security in the Federal Government of the Emirates", the authority stated that it managed to prevent and thwart 77,919 cyber attacks during the month of May alone, and that the attacks varied between malware, security holes, phishing or fraud and electronic fraud.
The commission revealed that malware attacks accounted for 70% of the total attacks it thwarted, which are programs that are created with the aim of destroying, influencing, or obtaining powers over systems and systems illegally. Malware includes: viruses, malicious ransomware, spyware, and security vulnerabilities searches of 22%, which are software errors in systems that can be exploited by criminals to tamper with and affect systems, in addition to 8% of phishing attacks, which is a process in which the criminal incoils The capacity of trusted companies or entities to trick the user into submitting his private data such as password and bank card, through false messages or websites.
The authority clarified that it was able to discover 23 vulnerabilities through penetration tests, gap assessment and proactive detection
And the "Telecommunications Regulatory Authority" announced, last month, that it foiled 130,854 electronic attacks on websites in the country during the first four months of this year.
