A new exhibition facility for "Pallas's cats" that live in Central Asia has been completed at the zoo in Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture, and is open to the public from the 22nd.
The zoo "Nasu Animal Kingdom" in Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture, has been completed at the exhibition facility for the wildcat "Manul Cat", which lives in Central Asia and has a body length of about 50 cm.
The new exhibition facility is about 65 square meters, three times as large as the previous one, and has sandboxes and rocks that resemble the habitat of Pallas's cats, allowing for sufficient exercise.
Of the 8 million yen in maintenance costs, 5 million yen was collected through crowdfunding, which calls for donations via the Internet.
On the 20th, which was opened to the press, two Pallas's cats were released from the backyard and showed a relaxed appearance, such as bathing in the sandbox of the new facility.
Miho Futagawahara, a zoo keeper, said, "I'm glad that the facility is wide and the breeding environment has improved. It's a new environment, so I want you to see movements and facial expressions that have never been seen before."
