Kazuhiro Ikebe, chairman of the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan, an industry group of electric power companies, requested that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry include the importance of nuclear power generation in the "Basic Energy Plan," which will be revised in late July.

Discussions are being held on the Basic Energy Plan for revision once every three years.

In the revised proposal presented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in late July, the introduction of renewable energy such as solar power will be significantly expanded, while nuclear power generation will "sustainably utilize the required scale" of nuclear power plants. It is not expected to include rebuilding.

Regarding this, Chairman Ikebe of the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan said at a press conference on the 16th, "In order to secure a stable supply capacity and reduce costs, it is necessary to secure nuclear power with established decarbonization technology. In the plan, I would like you to firmly position the importance of nuclear power and present a medium- to long-term vision such as rebuilding. "

Regarding renewable energy, he said, "Maximum introduction is indispensable, but there are still many issues to be cleared. We will make maximum use of our knowledge and technology and work to contribute to as many introductions as possible." He acknowledged that it is necessary to overcome technical issues in order to expand the introduction.
