Expo 2020 Dubai has announced the experience of the African food court “Kibulan”, which will be launched as part of the international event to showcase African foods and cultures with a new vision that celebrates the flavors of Africa.

The experience accompanies visitors by embodying the spirit of the African continent on a journey in which they explore the cultural diversity of the continent, bringing people, societies and countries together.

The African continent was called in the past "Kibulan", which is the oldest known name and means "mother of humanity".

At Expo 2020 Dubai, “Alkibulan” will be a culinary concept curated by award-winning international chef Alexander Smalls, who is also a former opera singer.

The food court is a celebration of African cuisine, designed to showcase contemporary African food and music from across the continent.

Each cooking station and concept has a unique design that expresses the individuality of the area, the kitchen and the chef in charge of the station.

“African food is as diverse as the continent’s countries and societies, but it is not sufficiently represented in the world,” said Chef Alexander Smalls, who supervises the Kipulan dining hall. Bringing a part of Africa to Expo 2020 is not only a dream come true, it is also an opportunity to showcase the rich diversity that makes African cuisine differ from one region to another. Food and music are central to our culture, and Kipulan will be a place that brings both together, inviting visitors from all corners of the world to participate in an immersive experience full of our flavors and traditions.”

As we adhere to the main slogan of (Expo 2020), (Connecting Minds, Creating the Future), we invited the countries of the world to showcase their national dishes, in order to give visitors the opportunity to taste traditional and specialized foods from all over the world in a safe environment.

We are very excited to welcome the African continent at Expo 2020 and to give our visitors the opportunity to experience new flavors and concepts, never before seen in the UAE.”

Delicious flavors

The “Alkibulan” dining hall offers a world of delicious flavors and remarkable experiences, and allows guests the opportunity to eat gourmet delicacies, traditional foods, and mixed foods in one destination.

The food court has 10 stations, each of which offers a different menu:

■ Chef Coco's Afro Street Eatery station serves up rich and rich flavors of West African street food, with dishes such as mini chapati rolls filled with meat curry or Ugandan-style vegetable curry.

■ Chef Coco's "Ken Bar" station also satisfies dessert lovers, offering what may be the world's tastiest "donuts", along with dessert cocktails.

■ Chef Alexander Smalls' Chicken Cup station, which serves chicken prepared in his two favorite ways, grilled and fried.

The three-times-fried Tunisian spiced chicken, served alongside thick, custard-covered Belgian waffles, is not to be missed.

■ Chef Coco Reinars' Choma Barbecue Station draws its inspiration from the art of stewing, grilling and smoking meat, with a menu that includes Zanzibar-marinated lamb rice served with kashumbari salad, as well as Kenyan-style skewers of meat with grilled green bananas.

■ The "Gecko Cocktails" station of the Tribe Kenya Hotel offers African flavors and drinks in cocktails prepared by the bartender Kelvin Thaya.

■ Benga Station for award-winning pop-up chefs Pierre Sevi, Glory Kabi and Mousse Gabbani, promises innovative African cuisine and a world-class culinary experience from Cameroon and Benin, serving dishes such as roasted rooster with mustard, tapioca, and mayonnaise sauce. Vegetable tandoori and fermented cassava semolina.

■ Seven Seafood by pioneering chef Kiran Jethwa offers a modern take on seafood from East Africa, using ingredients and flavors from the region to give a contemporary feel to traditional Kenyan cuisine.

■ Showbox Bakery by Chef Mami Sue, offers the ultimate African bakery experience, featuring sweet and savory ingredients, including Ethiopian injera bread.

At Expo 2020, countries from all over the world will showcase their national dishes, giving visitors the chance to sample traditional and specialized cuisines from more than 200 different food outlets.

Expo 2020 Dubai is one of the first global mega events held since the beginning of the “Covid-19” pandemic, and its activities will run from October 1, 2021 until March 31, 2022, and invite visitors from all over the world to create a new world in a celebration of human creativity, innovation, progress and culture that extends six months.
